Some more color mixing fun!

Oooooosss and Ahhhhhhhhhhhssss!

I love hearing the excited gasps from all the kids when we paint! Mixing the primary colors of red, yellow and blue to make the secondary colors of orange, green and purple is like magic to a 7 year old. We talked about the differences between geometric and organic shapes and how geometric shapes are very solid and man made and usually have angles (except circle and oval) and how organic shapes move, change and remind us of nature. We looked at the collage work of Henri Matisse and made our own collage and are now working on creating patterns and textures with painting.

Hickman Stars!!!

We have been working on these fantastic stars for the last week. We folded some paper and then we made one cut and TA DA....a star. We talked about patterns and then colored the stars. We did some writing about ourselves and then our project is complete. Hickman is full of stars!

THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

I have been teaching for 12 years and I still love the beginning of a new school year. I absolutely look forward to seeing the kids after summer break and to see their excitement is awesome. I always have a hard time sleeping during the first week of school just from my own excitement and optimism for the next 10 months. This year has not been any different. We are going to have a dynamic, wonderful time and I hope you have as much fun as I do every day!
